What is a WIKI?

A wiki allows users to create and edit facts on webpages as a collaborative group. The best known wiki is wikipedia. The Wikipedia style model of editing is followed. Wikispaces is relatively easy to use.
Wiki netiquette
  1. Use 'third person' when writing wiki content.
  2. A Wiki war occurs when more than one person edits the same page at the same time. Data can then be lost. If others are editing the page simultaneously, copy work, paste into notepad, cancel, exit and return at a later stage, to paste the content. (If the startup page asks to 'allow 'or 'discard the previous page', always choose discard.)
  3. Hyperlink to facts source. A good wiki will feature numerous hyperlinks. Web urls should not be seen on the wiki page.
  4. If a change is made to the wiki, add it to the discussion tab or add to the discussion before changes to others' work is to be made. If no response within 2 or 3 days, make the changes.
  5. Check the history tab on each page to see who has been updating and when. Update pages can be compared and certain pages can be reverted back, from the history tab.
  6. Use the discussion tab to communicate with partners and teachers. Check this area at least once a day during the project for messages and also to send messages to others.
  7. Stay on topic.
